Alumnus Donates $1 Million Gift to Alfred University

-

Thanks to an external $1 million gift, all Alfred University employees will soon receive a one-time payment award for their services.

The gift was donated by alumnus Terry S. Galanis, Sr., founder of Sealing Devices, on his 101st birthday with a note, “use some of this to do something nice for your employees.”

On Tuesday, the University announced that it will award the money to all of its full-time and part-time, regular non-bargaining unit employees hired before July 1, 2018.

The remaining amount from the gift will be spent to support the College of Business and the proposed Jericho Hill project for athletics.

“This most recent gift from Terry Galanis, Sr., is one in a long history of generosity from the Galanis family to Alfred University,” President Mark Zupan said. “For many years, the family sponsored the Galanis Business Award for our College of Business that introduced the Alfred University name to hundreds of Western New York businesspeople.”

In the past, the Galanis family has also helped establish the school’s junior varsity football coaching position and refurbished the gymnasium at McLane Center.

In recognition of his services to the community, the Board of Trustees has voted to bestow Galanis, Sr., with a Doctor of Engineering degree.
