American University Launches Institute to Find Policy Solutions

-

To promote bipartisan policy solutions to the U.S. most pressing challenges, the American University has launched an institute which will bring top scholars in the field on a common platform.

The launch of Sine Institute of Policy and Politics, announced by University President Sylvia M. Burwell on Monday, will bring together leaders from nonprofit, public and private sectors including journalism to conduct research and exchange ideas regarding issues that shape political discourse and policies.

“We aim to raise the quality and impact of the study and practice of policy and politics, as we bring together professionals at the top of their fields, scholars, and students,” Burwell said.

“The Institute will take full advantage of our location in the nation’s capital and growing business community. Our focus on policy will catalyze conversations on the substance, as well as the politics.”

The institute will primarily focus on international policy issues, the importance of economic regions in the country and role played by non-profit and for-profit sector in public policy.

It was set up after a university alumnus and entrepreneur Jeff Sine and journalist Samira Sine made a generous donation of $10 million.
