Davidson College Investigates Student’s Pro-Nazi Twitter Handle

-

Davidson College has announced an investigation into a student’s conduct days after an activist group revealed her connection to a twitter account posting anti-Semitic and racist tweets.

Carolina Workers Collective wrote in a tweet on November 8 that Martha Geddes, a Davidson student and U.S. Army Reserve Officer Training Corps cadet, used to moderate twitter handle @femanon praising Adolf Hitler, Ku Klux Klan and demonizing Jews.

The college has strongly condemned the tweets and termed them “antithetical to everything Davidson stands for.”

“Davidson College condemns bigotry and racism as antithetical to our values and our mission. We are aware of the information that has understandably raised concern, and the college is on it,” the college said in a tweet.

College President Carol Quillen sent an email to the community members and said that the officials are investigating the matter.

“Since we became aware of this, we (campus police, all of our student life and RLO staff, our communications staff, and many others) have been working on it. We will update you as we can. For now, please know that we are a strong community and stand firm behind our values of dignity toward all,” Quillen said.

On Saturday, the students, faculty and staff gathered in the Alvarez College Union to give a message against “antisemitism, racism and bigotry.”

Pertinently, in recent weeks, various college and university campuses across the country have seen a rise in posting of flyers emphasizing “white supremacist ideology.”

In the last two weeks, the flyers appeared at the University of Denver, University of Vermont and Champlain College.
