The U.S. Department of Education on Friday announced the appointment of five members to the National Assessment Governing Board to help set up policy for the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP).
With four new members and one reappointment, the NAEP says it will offer objective data on students performance in dozens of subjects in order to educate policymakers and the public.
The 25-member board will further determine the content and subject of NAEP tests and achievement levels of reporting, thus helping different stakeholders evaluate American education progress.
“I’m pleased to welcome this diverse group of leaders from across the country to the National Assessment Governing Board,” Secretary Besty DeVos said.
“The board plays an important role in assessing student achievement, and I am confident that their collective experience will be a valuable asset as we work to ensure that all students have equal access to a great education that gives them the opportunity to reach their fullest potential.”
Those who have made it to the board after a nationwide search are: Paul Gasparini, a secondary school principal; Julia Keleher, chief state school officer; Mark Miller, eighth-grade teacher; Nardi Routten, fourth-grade teacher and Tonya Matthews, a re-appointment.
