Smith College Named Most Haunted School in America

-

The Smith College is the most haunted colleges in America, according to the College Consensus, a college ranking website. It gained the top spot with a score of 81.1 for its ghost stories and colonial-era buildings.

“Of course, a century and a half is plenty of time to develop some home-grown college ghost stories, and with buildings dating back to the Colonial Era (it is Massachusetts, after all), Smith has centuries of accidents, murders, and epidemics to draw from. Smith might be known to College Consensus as the top-ranked Women’s College in the US, but it’s also one of the most haunted colleges in New England,” the Consensus review said.

The ranking, released on Wednesday, chose the college after aggregating publisher rankings and student reviews.

“Any college worth its salt has a ghost story or two – it’s a long-standing part of college lore. They serve a lot of purposes – upperclassmen may use them to mess around with the freshmen, making sure they sleep with the lights on in their ‘haunted’ dorm for the first few weeks,” Managing Editor Carrie Sealey-Morris said.

Other colleges that made it in the College Consensus top five list ghost college list include, in order of rank, University of Notre Dame, Kenyon College, Gettysburg College, and Flagler College.
