University of Chicago Launches Safety App for Campus

-

The University of Chicago has announced the launch of a new safety app for campus providing the person in distress with necessary information and links to the resources.

The UChicago Safe app developed in collaboration with AppArmor has the option to report crimes, talk to university safety and security dispatch team and directly call the University of Chicago Police Department and Chicago Police Department.

The app also has a feature that shares the location of a user with the police department.

“The Department of Safety and Security wanted to provide the University of Chicago community with additional ways to contact the Department of Safety and Security and the UCPD,” Executive Director of Campus Safety Michael Kwiatkowski told The Maroon.

“The popularity and interest in mobile safety applications has increased greatly in the past three years. Many universities such as Princeton and NYU have recently released mobile safety applications.”

The app also has a security alert system allowing people to choose what kind of alerts they would like to receive.
