The University of Florida has been named the top higher education institution offering distance linguistics programs.
The college list, released by OnlineCollegePlan.Com, ranked twenty institutes across the country providing the best linguistics programs for distance learners. The website used factors like freshman retention rate, graduation rate and types of linguistics programs offered to rank the best 20 colleges across the country.
The University of Florida ranked top for offering linguistics programs, including Master of Arts in Latin and Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology, with a score of 184 out of 200. The university has a graduation rate of 87 percent and freshmen retention rate of 97 percent.
The University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign ranked second with a score of 179. It has a graduation rate of 85 percent and a retention rate of 94 percent. The university offers various programs, which lead to specialization in Literary and Applied Literary Translation, Conference and Community Interpreting and Translation for the Professions.
“Colleges and universities are constantly striving to provide their students with more flexible options, so it’s no wonder that online degrees have been booming in popularity,” research editor, Allison Barnes said.
“Because of the push for innovation and the nature of the courses, it is quite shocking that linguistics degree programs aren’t widely available. That can lead to difficulty researching what schools might provide a student with the best option, which is one that fits their budget, their schedule, and their career goals.”
Other eight institutions that figured in 20 best online schools, in the order of rank, are the University of Washington, The University of Texas at Austin, Saint John’s University Oregon State University, Georgia State University, William Woods University, University of Massachusetts Boston and the California University of Pennsylvania.
