Eight higher education institutions were recognized as the most bicycle-friendly schools across the nation, according to the latest rankings released by the League of American Bicyclists.

They were certified universities bronze, silver, gold, and platinum levels corresponding to the efforts they have taken in making their campuses bicycle friendly. Another 24 universities earned gold certification, while nearly 60 schools were designated as a silver-level Bicycle Friendly University.

“Campuses are incubators of the next generation,” said Bill Nesper, Executive Director of the League of American Bicyclists.

“To build safer streets, to encourage healthier communities, to empower more people to bike–colleges and universities can cultivate wider culture change by making biking a preferred option for people to get around campus.”

The campuses that were ranked best offer services for bikers like maintenance and storage options, theft prevention programs, and biking skills classes among others.
