Students of color can now take advantage of assistance in getting into college through the San Diego County Office’s Fourth Annual San Diego Black College Expo virtual college fair.
The expo will help prospective college students to connect with administrators of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to streamline the process of gaining a much-coveted admissions slot to their preferred university.

The two-day event, held virtually this year due to the pandemic, will offer students access to free or reduced college application fees, instant college admissions, and discounts on college tuition. What’s more, students can also get scholarships totaling $10 million this year.
Students can upload their certificates and transcripts for review by college representatives within minutes, making the admission process much easier.
How Can Students Take Advantage?
This year, representatives from 50 HBCUs will be on-hand for students to discuss their higher-education options. They can also get help completing their Free Application for Federal Student Aid — the official form that students use to apply for college funding.
The event will feature live seminars on topics such as “How to Find Money for College” and “Why Attend an HBCU.”
The Black College Expo was developed to provide greater higher education access for underrepresented students by demystifying the admission process. The expo seeks to educate students about the importance of HBCUs.
“Our mission is to make sure students are prepared for the next stage of life after leaving our schools,” county superintendent of schools, Dr. Paul Gothold said.
The Fourth Annual Black College Expo runs from 12 pm to 3 pm on February 19 and 20. Students and academicians can register for free.
