North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University has received a gift to cover the cost of attending study abroad programs for some of its students.
Committed by the Weaver Foundation, the $1.5 million gift will establish the H. Michael Weaver Endowment in International Programs. Students will have their various costs covered like study materials, insurance, transportation and related incidentals.
“To retain its lofty position among our nation’s universities, N.C. A&T needs a vibrant study abroad program to assist in the recruitment of highly qualified students,” said Mike Weaver, founder of Weaver Foundation.
“Our A&T students need travel opportunities to further expand their education. Unfortunately our state has not been able to fill this need,” he added.
Last academic year, 242 students participated in study abroad programs which is up from 45 students who participated during the 2013-14 academic year.
Students enrolled in a university-approved program, classified as sophomore or above with academic and good standing requirements will be eligible for the program. The Office of International Affairs will review all applications and send recommendations to the Office of the Provost for final approval.
