After five years of planning, Columbia State Community College (CSCC) has finally begun construction on a new $26.9 million arts and technology facility at its Williamson County campus.
The new building is expected to help expand enrollment, course offerings, and community partnerships.
The 41,000 square-foot space will feature state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories, as well as a student engagement space designed for the college’s workforce-oriented programs.
CSCC plans to utilize the new facility to teach information technology, cyber defense, networking, data analytics, arts, and graphic design.
During the groundbreaking ceremony held earlier this month, CSCC President Janet F. Smith explained that the multimillion-dollar project will be a catalyst to improve students’ on-campus experience.

‘Building More Opportunities’
In addition to classrooms and laboratories, the facility will have a 150-seat instructional space with theater-style seating and a small stage to host arts and technology-related activities.
The college said it will also use the new site for its licensed practical nursing program, where students will have an opportunity to earn a nursing assistant certificate.
Meanwhile, Smith believes that the building will encourage more students to enroll at CSCC and study in areas that will help them land a job in the future. She also said that the facility will allow the college to create new programs.
CSCC plans to open the new facility to students in 2023.
