A scholarship and education support organization has announced the beginning of the applications period for its scholarship program that helps students across the country who are enrolled in colleges and can’t afford the cost of their education.

The Dream Award, a renewable scholarship program of non-profit Scholarship America running in its sixth year, has awarded over $1 million to 54 students. The students who have started college overcoming barriers are given financial aid ranging from $5,000 to $15,000.

The evaluation of the applications for the award will be decided by the Dream Award Selection Committee comprising of education and business leaders, and recipients will be announced in February 2019

“That mission has stayed the same since the organization’s start in 1958 when 24 students shared $4,000 in scholarships. Since then, Scholarship America has built programs that have distributed over $4 billion and helped more than 2.4 million students as the go-to source for scholarships, emergency aid, mentoring, coaching, financial literacy and more,” the release reads.

Applications for the grants are being accepted through October 15, 2018.
