Chicago-based Pacific College of Oriental Medicine is offering the first regional certificate in cannabis for healthcare professionals, the school said in a release.

The school is collaborating with Oaksterdam University to offer its college-level Medical Cannabis Certificate for Healthcare Professionals to educate and guide its students on the safe and effective use of cannabis.

A recent report by Grand View Research, Inc pegged the global legal marijuana market of USD 66.3 billion by the end of 2025 with increased legalization for medicinal and recreational purposes.

“Patients deserve expert care,” said Pacific College’s program Chair Carey Clark.

“They need reliable information about potential drug interactions, how to procure quality cannabinoid medications, and how to safely use the medicine for maximum relief of symptoms and minimal side effects.”

The Oaksterdam faculty members will two guest lectures on genealogy and pharmacology of cannabis that will explore the cannabis genome and identify the therapeutic properties of the plant.

Recently, many colleges and universities have started offering programs in cannabis. Two years ago, Northern Michigan University started a major in medicinal plant chemistry that attracted more than 230 students from across the country.

Stockton University, Oaksterdam University, Cannabis Training University, Clover Leaf University, Trichome Institute, and THC University offer various minors in cannabis studies as well.
