Howard University Launches Program to Increase Diversity in Hollywood

Howard University is partnering with Amazon Studios to create a program that will bring diversity to Hollywood, the school announced in a release.

The new Howard Entertainment program an immersive two-semester experience located in Los Angeles, California will allow black students and those from other marginalized sections to study and train alongside executives from the entertainment industry.

Starting next January, the students would be required to take academic courses during the spring semester and attend fellowship during the summer semester.

“The vision of Howard Entertainment is to offer a one-of-a-kind experience for students interested in all aspects of entertainment, from project greenlighting, to PR and marketing, to entertainment law and finance,” said President Wayne A. I. Frederick.

Collaborating with Amazon Studios will enable us to marry academia and industry efforts to build a robust workforce of diverse entertainment industry leaders.”

The selected students will be taught and trained by Howard faculty in synchronization with Amazon Studios employees and other industry professionals invited by them.

To qualify for the program, graduate students or upperclassmen will have to file an application that will be followed by an interview. Those who plan to attend the program can contact HowardEntertainment@howard.edu for more details.
