For newly graduated students, there is a thing to worry about this year. The growth of higher education jobs across the United States has not seen the same pace as it did last year.
Compared to 2017, the job increase during the first quarter of 2018 has been slower, according to a new report by a job information website, HigherEdJobs.
The website analyzed the data of U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and found that higher education jobs grew at just 0.3 percent, with 13,000 jobs, compared to 0.7 percent, or 26,500 jobs, in the first quarter of 2017.
The report mentioned that there has been a decline of 0.1 percent of jobs at public institutions, which has been directly attributed to the thousands of job cuts at community colleges.
It also found that the number of open positions in the higher education institutions increased in the first quarter of 2018 by 0.5 percent.
“All of the increase in job postings for higher education positions can be attributed to a rise in the number of postings for full-time positions since there was a decrease in postings for part-time positions,” the report said.
“For several years, postings for part-time jobs have increased at a faster rate than postings for full-time jobs. However, the trend reversed in the immediately preceding fourth quarter of 2017 and continued in Q1 2018.”
For its report, the HigherEdJobs analyzed the data of posting trends at 870 universities and colleges along with data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
