San Diego-based National University is considering a name change and lowering tuition of its various programs after receiving a historic gift.

On Tuesday, the university announced receiving a $350 million gift from philanthropist and owner of First Premier Bank T. Denny Sanford, one of the top 15 largest donations to a U.S. higher education institution.

The university will rename itself as Sanford National University and use a major part of the gift to increase access to quality education, tuition affordability, and student success.

“Mr. T. Denny Sanford represents so much of what National University believes in as we challenge ourselves even further to advance and transform higher education for our students and all adult learners nationwide,” school President Dr. David W. Andrews said.

The university will focus on various core areas including the expansion of programs that support societal advances through the education and nonprofit sectors and provide educational pathways for working adults in key industries.

Currently, the school offers various online and campus-based programs to serve adult learners through its three Colleges: Sanford College of Education, College of Professional Studies, and College of Letters and Sciences.
