Two weeks after six cases of rape were reported by students at Ohio State University, another woman has come forward to report an incident of sexual assault.
Over last weekend, a woman who was visiting the campus claimed that she was sexually assaulted in the Mill Street area.
The latest incident comes weeks after six students reported sexual assault either to Ohio University Police or Athens Police after the start of fall semester.
“Statistics show that the first six weeks of the fall semester is the most dangerous time for students in regards to sexual assault,” Director of the Ohio University Survivor Advocacy Program Kim Castor said.
In a similar incident on September 19, a female student was sexually assaulted by an unknown male near the Emeriti Park.
“In addition to our detectives working together to share information and investigate these crimes, both of our departments are focusing extra patrol efforts in the areas where these crimes took place,” university police chief Andrew Powers and Athens Police Chief Tom Pyle said in a joint statement.
The officials have further asked the students to respect the boundaries by creating a culture of intolerance for sexual violence.
