Purdue University, in partnership with Kaplan Higher Education, is launching a number of affordable online master’s degree programs.

Offered on edX by Purdue’s schools of Civil Engineering, Electrical, and Computer Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering, most of the master’s degrees will cost students less than $25,000.

School officials term the latest offering as the first comprehensive engineering postgraduate curricula provided online at such a cost.

“We were intrigued when edX approached us with an opportunity to serve potentially thousands of new engineering students who could never come to Purdue’s campus to earn these degrees,” said Gerry McCartney, executive vice president for Purdue Online.

“This is an important milestone for online education at Purdue University.”

Starting in 2020, the university will offer masters in Advanced Electronics through the edX MicroMasters program, which could count as a degree if a student is accepted into the full master’s degree program.

Students enrolling in most of the master’s programs can customize their study plan to include unique one-credit-hours helping them to graduate from their chosen technical field.

“This powerful offering will provide the highest-quality online master’s degrees for working professionals in engineering, at the highest value,” said Mung Chiang, Purdue’s John A. Edwardson Dean of the College of Engineering.

Applications for the program are being accepted through November 1, 2019.
