Troy University has announced that it will not increase tuition for the 2019-2020 academic year, the university said in a release.
Last week, the Board of Trustees approved a proposal to keep the current undergraduate tuition rate of $325 per credit hour, graduate tuition rate of $425 per credit hour, and general university fee of $42 per credit hour in place for the next academic year as well.
Tuition for out-of-state students and TROY Online will also remain the same.
“This tuition freeze was made possible by the increase in our state appropriation recommended by the Alabama Commission on Higher Education and by the Governor and we look forward to its passage by the legislature,” Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., chancellor, said.
“We are grateful to the Alabama Commission on Higher Education, Gov. Kay Ivey and the legislature for addressing the funding gap between TROY and its peer institutions.”
For the next fiscal year, the university is expecting an increase of $4.2 million in state funding.
Earlier this week, Illinois State University also froze its tuition and room and board rates for the next academic year.
Various colleges and universities across the nation are undertaking similar initiatives. The University of HawaiʻI, Michigan State University, Newberry College, Purdue University and Corban University are among others who have frozen tuition costs for their students during the current academic year.
