The University of Alabama and Gotcha, an electric scooter and customized dockless bike company, are rolling out a bike share system on campus for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
The company will start off with 150 e-bikes with electric pedal-assist technology at more than 70 mobility hubs throughout campus, which will be available for use on all weekdays.
The initiative aims to provide accessible, affordable and sustainable transportation options for the university community.
“The program serves as a means of transportation, and it promotes an active lifestyle,” said Chris D’Esposito, director of transportation services for The University of Alabama.
Students can book the rides via Gotcha app, available in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Members of the University of Alabama community will be able to access the bikes free for one hour every day and afterward pay a flat charge of 10 cents per hour.
“Our monthly subscription plan costs less than Netflix or Amazon Prime which most students are already subscribed to and is less than one Uber trip, so it’s super affordable,” said Sean Flood, CEO, and founder of Gotcha.
Student riders can also sign up for a monthly University Mo-Pass for $6.99,
