A Clarkson University Professor has been selected for the American Chemical Society Award for encouraging women to take careers in chemical science.

Ruth Baltus, who is a professor of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering, has been given the award by Camille & Henry Dreyfus Foundation.

The award recognizes Baltus’ dedication to stimulating the interest of women in chemistry and contributing to their professional developments as a chemical engineer.

“Professor Baltus has been a tireless advocate for women at Clarkson. Her success in encouraging women to pursue chemical engineering careers and to reach their full professional development is impressive, her passion towards this goal is inspiring, and her efforts are a model to be emulated,” Clarkson President Anthony Collins wrote in the letter while nominating Baltus for the award.

Earlier, Baltus has received Distinguished Engineering Educator Award from the Society of Women Engineers in 2003 and Lifetime Award of Merit by SUNY Oswego in 2006.

The award will be presented to her in Orlando at FPA’s 257th ACS National Meeting on April 2, 2019.
