Texas-based Baylor University has received a $100 million gift from an anonymous donor to strengthen the areas of teaching, research, and service.

The gift was made to Give Life, a $1.1 billion comprehensive philanthropic campaign for the future of Baylor started in November 2018. The donation, largest in the university’s history, will create a matching fund to establish Baylor Academic Challenge to conduct promising research, academic programs and push for academic enterprise.

A part of the gift will also provide students with scholarships, endow funds to equip faculty as teachers and researchers, bolster athletics and support those capital projects that add physical capacity for academic and athletic growth.

“This is a truly momentous day in the 174-year history of Baylor University,” Baylor President Linda A. Livingstone said during an event in Houston celebrating Give Light.

“We are deeply grateful to these members of the Baylor Family whose spirit of generosity and undying love for Baylor and its Christian mission will galvanize support from others who will come alongside and invest in Baylor, our strategic priorities under Illuminate and our faculty and students in areas of greatest need and significant impact,” she added.

David Rosselli, vice president for advancement for Baylor, said the gift would ensure a better future for coming Baylor’s generations.

Under its Give Light campaign, the university has raised $692 million from more than 53,000 supporters and has endowed funds for 17 faculty chairs and professorships, 411 scholarships and 129 funds for growth priorities.
