A Louisiana State University (LSU) student and member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity has been charged with hazing after a freshman was hospitalized.

Terry Pat Reynolds II, 21, surrendered to police after a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was charged with counts of felony, misdemeanor criminal hazing, and failure to seek assistance, as reported by The Baton Rouge Advocate. The university will still conduct its own investigation of fraternity-related violations.

Reynolds was assigned as New Member Educator, which means he was tasked with initiating the freshmen. Phi Kappa Psi has been suspended while the police were conducting their investigation and its members were also prohibited from getting in contact with the new members.

Recalling the Events

The arrest was ordered after police concluded their investigation. According to the findings, the freshman was hospitalized on Monday, October 19, after a night of partying off-campus with his fraternity brothers. After the party, he visited the apartment of a female acquaintance, also located off-campus.

After this visit, some of the freshman’s fraternity brothers noticed he needed medical attention, so they brought him to the Baton Rouge General Medical Center. At the hospital, it was determined that the freshman’s alcohol level had reached critical levels.

The freshman was “unresponsive” and foaming at the mouth when the fraternity members left him at the hospital. He eventually recovered and was subsequently released, but not after an investigation was called.
