Central Michigan University Professor Wins Top Mathematics Award

A statistics professor at Central Michigan University has received the prestigious Deborah and Franklin Tepper Haimo Award for his contributions to the field of mathematics.

The Mathematical Association of America named Carl Lee as the recipient of the award, which is given to university mathematics faculty members who have demonstrated great success as educators.

“Lee is recognized for his outstanding contributions to teaching and learning in the mathematical sciences,” Michael Pearson, executive director of the association, said.

“He provides tireless mentoring and helps any student interested in mathematical sciences and applications.”

Lee is credited with developing the Real-Time Online Hands-on Activities Database, funded by the National Science Foundation, which is now used at more than 50 institutions. He also founded the Undergraduate Statistics Project Competition, and co-founded the Consortium of the Advancement of Undergraduate Statistics Education.
