Racist Slur Found Written at Central Connecticut State University

-

Amid student concerns, Central Connecticut State University is investigating a racist incident where two of its buildings were found defaced with racist slurs over the weekend.

According to The Associated Press, a school employee noticed the racist slurs, including the n-word, sprayed outside the student center and on the wall of a parking garage.

The university is currently investigating the incident and using surveillance tapes to identify any possible suspects.

“We must stand together to demonstrate that this behavior will not be tolerated on our campus, and I commit to leading this charge,” Zulma Toro, CCSU president, said in a message to the campus community.

“We encourage you to report to CCSU Police all incidents of hate – verbal, written, or otherwise – that you see on our campus. I assure you that each incident will be fully investigated. We will continue to strive to make Central a safe and welcoming place for all members of our family.”

To counter the hate and show solidarity between students, the Black Student Union announced a peaceful protest, taking place on April 11.

“On Thursday, Pride and the Black Student Union will come together in the face of blatant racism and homophobia. Join us to let our campus know that you WILL NOT stand for the hatred that resides at CCSU,” the student group wrote on Twitter.

In a similar incident last month, multiple members of Tau Kappa Epsilon at the University of Georgia were suspended after a video showing them using racial slurs went viral on social media.
