University of Houston Law Center Wins Diversity  Award

-

For its efforts to increase minority representation in the legal profession and on campus, the University of Houston’s law center has won Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award.

Houston’s law center is the only law school across the nation to be awarded by the Insight Into Diversity magazine. The center received the HEED award for the third consecutive year.

The magazine cited center’s Pre-Law Pipeline Program that prepares undergraduates for a law career, who are low income, first generation and groups underrepresented in the legal profession.

“I am humbled and honored that the Law Center has won the HEED Award three years in a row and to be the only law school in the nation to be recognized in 2018,” Dean Leonard M. Baynes said.

“It is a wonderful recognition and appreciation for all the hard work that goes into making the Law Center a more diverse and inclusive place.”

The magazine selects recipients on the basis of various parameters which detail demographics of students and faculty, community outreach and other efforts to increase diversity.

“The Law Center is proud to receive this award for the third time,” George Butler, Research Professor of Law said and added, “We value and work hard at addressing diversity issues in legal education and in the legal profession.  It is wonderful to see that our efforts are being recognized nationally.”
