Miami University Employee Arrested for Raping Student

-

A Miami University maintenance department worker has been charged with kidnapping and raping a university student.

Brandon Levi Gilbert, 22, was arrested on the wee hours of Saturday morning by the officer of Oxford Police Department for sexually assaulting a 21-year-old student.

The incident came to light when a police officer manning a traffic spot at a traffic stop at South Poplar Street heard a girl screaming from a nearby yard.

“The screams grew louder and when the officer exited his cruiser he observed a female running toward him,” police told The Enquirer.

“She was shaking and trembling with fear. I noticed that she was covered in dead grass and leaves from head to toe and her waist belt was undone,” Officer Mark Ledermeier wrote in a police report obtained by the Journal News.

The University has taken cognizance of the incident and suspended Gilbert without pay.

“It’s not like I would ever blame Miami, it’s just sad its happening from an employee,” Miami University senior Abbey Wilgor told WLWT5 TV.

Gilbert was produced before the court Monday morning who set $41,000 bail bond. He is set to be produced before the court on Thursday.
