Transfer Scholarship Announced for Community Colleges

-

Students studying at community colleges will get a major part of their tuition covered under a scholarship program aimed to help students complete their bachelor’s degrees.

The Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship announced by Jack Kent Cooke Foundation will provide community college students with up to $40,000 per year for up to three years and college transition support, along with advising.

“Selective institutions increasingly recognize the extraordinary potential of the nation’s community college students, but many students may not realize the transfer options available to them,” Seppy Basili, the Foundation’s executive director said.

“We’re excited to streamline our application to ensure that students have time to research their options and simultaneously apply for our scholarship.”

Those students who are current or recent graduates of a community college with GPA of 3.5 or above, and have also demonstrated financial need, are eligible for the scholarship. They can apply through an online platform hosting applications of more than 650 higher education institutions called Common App for Transfer.

“The process of applying to both college and scholarships can be time-consuming and stressful for transfer students,” Jenny Rickard, President, and CEO of The Common Application said.

“By enabling potential Cooke Scholars to complete their Common App and scholarship application at the same time, we hope to eliminate some of the barriers for these students and empower them to focus on presenting their best selves to prospective colleges and universities.”

Applications for the scholarship program will be accepted through November 27, 2018.
