UC Davis Receives Gift to Start Nursing Fellowship

-

The University of California, Davis has received a multi-million dollar grant to fund a fellowship program for nursing students, the school said in a release.

On Tuesday, Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation gave a $37.5 million grant to launch the Betty Irene Moore Fellowship Program at the university’s Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing.

The program from Nurse Leaders and Innovators will recognize their high potential to accelerate leadership in nursing-science research, practice, education, policy and entrepreneurship.

The new fellowship will prepare nurses as collaborative leaders with the skills and confidence to inspire others, enact change and challenge the status quo with the goal of better outcomes for patients and families.

“This investment signals an opportunity to build upon our foundation of nurse leaders and offer an educational experience beyond UC Davis that addresses the needs and challenges of a diverse and changing world,” UC Davis Chancellor Gary S. May said.

Each year, the program will support approximately 10 fellows from eligible institutions, who will receive a total of $450,000 over three years to support their work.

The university will appoint the nursing school’s founding dean as the program director, while the Fellowship National Advisory Council will guide the Betty Irene Moore Fellowship Program.
