Florida State Launches Trauma and Resilience Course Online

-

Florida State University (FSU) has launched an online professional certification course to help higher education professionals better serve students who have experienced trauma.

Developed by the Institute for Family Violence Studies at the FSU College of Social Work, the Professional Certification in College Student Well-being, Trauma and Resilience is an effort to educate administrators, faculty, staff, and policymakers concerning the factors that impact student resilience and well-being.

The course is designed for higher education professionals, including administrators, faculty, staff, Title IX professionals, victim advocates, and human resources professionals.

Objectives and Requirements

With more and more colleges focusing on the mental well-being of students, FSU’s self-paced, online course will prepare higher education professionals to create trauma-informed environments in which students and employees can access the vital support they need in times of crisis.

Participants will learn how to build a campus culture that promotes positive mental health, student retention, and student success.

Course facilitators express that this kind of curriculum is especially relevant after the pandemic upended the lives of thousands of students. “This certification helps higher education professionals learn more about the root of students’ difficulties and practical ways campus leaders can improve outcomes for all students,” FSU College of Social Work Dean Jim Clark said.

The training costs $349 per person for 20 hours of course content, including case scenarios, multimedia materials, assignments, and quizzes.

Interested candidates can contact resilience@capd.fsu.edu or call (850) 644-7545.
