Kansas Community College to Pay Staff $250 to Get COVID-19 Vaccine

-

The largest community college in Kansas has a tempting offer for its staff members: get vaccinated and receive monetary compensation.

Johnson County Community College announced its intention to offer $250 to campus employees who get inoculated in an effort to entice more college students to return for the incoming fall semester.

With the increasing number of US colleges requiring or encouraging students, faculty, and staff members to be vaccinated, spokesperson Chris Gray told KCTV5 that Johnston County considered the initiative as “an innovative way to reinforce healthy decisions.”

Through this incentive and the promise of a safer campus, the college is aiming to welcome more than half of its current student population numbered at 14,000.

Efforts to Return to Normalcy

In a span of a few days, Brown University, Northeastern University, Syracuse University, and the University of Notre Dame joined the growing list of schools demanding students to receive vaccinations before returning to class this fall.

Rutgers University and Cornell University are also among the institutions that passed the mandate earlier to provide students with a safer campus environment that can hopefully lead to a less restrictive college experience.

“Medical and religious exemptions will be accommodated, but the expectation will be that our campuses and classrooms will overwhelmingly consist of vaccinated individuals, greatly reducing the risk of infection for all,” Cornell President Martha Pollack and Provost Michael Kotlikoff said in the school’s official statement.
