Kutztown University Students’ Names Missing from Poll Books

-

Dozens of Kutztown University students did not cast a vote during the U.S. midterm elections after discovering that they were not registered as voters.

According to a Reading Eagle report, more than 100 students, who claimed they got registered during an on-campus voter registration drive, were turned away from polling stations.

Maxatawny Township 3rd Precinct’s judge of elections Julia Zion said that she was forced to turn down more than 40 students without voting after she couldn’t find their names on poll books.

“We had a lot of people coming up to us telling us they were registered, but they weren’t in the poll books,” Zion told Reading Eagle. “I have a feeling these people were going around campus filling out forms, and I assume they were just thrown to the side. They didn’t do anything with them.”

University officials have confirmed to the Eagle that nearly 100 students faced similar problems.

Meanwhile, Berks County Election Services and Pennsylvania Department of State have started an investigation into the matter.
