Michigan State University professor Tom Lovik has won this year’s Georges J. Joyaux Post-Secondary Educator Award.

Lovik, who teaches Linguistics and Germanic, Slavic, Asian and African Languages, received the award for his commitment to expanding American understanding of different world languages and cultures.

The award was presented by Michigan World Language Association on October 18 at its annual conference in Lansing.

“(Lovik) has demonstrated time and again the depth of his commitment to expanding students’ understanding of the world with a maximum of collegiality and mentorship and a generous sense of citizenship in the world of language education beyond the boundaries of the university,” the university said in a release.

He is well-known for his book, A Communicative Introduction to German Language and Culture co-authored with J. Douglas Guy and Monika Chavez. He is also the recipient of Frank Steinway Award for Excellence in German.
