Ohio Wesleyan University Receives $10 Million for Campus Construction

-

Students at Ohio Wesleyan University will soon have access to new senior student apartments after an anonymous donor couple gifted $10 million to fund their construction, the school announced in a release.

Donated to its Connect Today, Create Tomorrow campaign, the gifted is largest in the school’s history, topping two prior contributions of $8 million each which were donated in 2013 and 2014.

In addition to the construction of a new residential campus, the gift will also enable the school to renovate and restore a 121-year-old campus landmark, Slocum Hall.

“We are pleased to support the university’s ongoing efforts to provide a campus living and learning experience that is second-to-none,” the anonymous alumni couple said in a statement. “We can’t wait to see the beautifully restored Slocum Hall and transformed the residential campus.”

The residential renewal initiative, which is estimated to cost the university $60 million total, includes plans to build new senior student apartments, to renovate Smith Hall to create a first-year student village, revitalize fraternity and adjacent theme houses, and improve Welch Hall and Hayes Hall.

The university also announced that it received another $13.56 million in gifts and pledges to renew its residential campus and to support faculty development, in addition to other university priorities.
