Oregon State University to Offer Online Programs to Hockey Association

-

Oregon State University has become a new resource for more than 8,000 current and retired minor-league hockey players to receive a college education online.

The university and the Professional Hockey Players’ Association (PHPA) announced the new collaboration last Wednesday, which provides the hockey players and their family members access to its top-ranked online degree programs.

The university’s Oregon State Ecampus will offer and deliver more than 60 OSU degree and certificate programs. The hockey players will have support from PHPA’s tuition reimbursement plan, in addition to the the university’s scholarship program for distance learners.

“We are proud to team up with the PHPA and provide access to transformative learning experiences not only to a motivated collection of athletes but also to their families,” Lisa L. Templeton, OSU Ecampus associate provost, said. “Ecampus is uniquely positioned to carry out the university’s land grant mission and deliver a high-quality, accessible education to learners everywhere.”

The Ecampus delivers programs to distance learners in all 50 states and more than 50 countries. It has also been ranked among the nation’s Top 10 for five straight years by U.S. News & World Report.

“Our membership includes numerous postsecondary-educated players, and this collaboration will allow those looking to complete their degree a chance to do so while they continue to play,” Larry Landon, longtime PHPA Executive Director, said. “They have an opportunity to continue their educational goals via one of North America’s greatest online providers of college degrees and educational certificates.”

Students who plan to enroll through PHPA will have access to individualized Ecampus success coaching, library services, free tutoring, and career advising.
