When it comes to salary hikes for professors, the University of Florida is leading among the major higher education institutions across the country.
According to a new study conducted by American Association of University Professors, professors at UF in Gainesville received an average hike of 8.8 percent, while associate professors got a hike of 8.3 percent in 2017-2018.
The study has found that in 2017-2018, the average salaries for full-time professors increased by 3 percent, which comes to 1.1 percent after inflation adjustments, while presidents of the institutions are paid on an average 4.78 time more than faculty members.
“We work hard at tracking what the faculty in each of our departments get paid here and what their peers are getting,” UF president Kent Fuchs, told The Daytona Beach News Journal.
The study further found that professors had an average salary of $104,820, associate professors $81,247, while assistant professors received a paycheck of $70,791 in the 2017-2018 academic year.
A total of 1,018 higher education institutions having more than 378,000 professors on roll participated in the survey.
