UMass Amherst Starts University Without Walls Program

-

The University of Massachusetts-Amherst is starting University Without Walls (UWW) program to supplement its efforts to make degree completion accessible for everyone, including working professionals.

Often regarded as the oldest and most opted adult bachelor’s degree completion programs in the country, the UMass program will deliver various courses through various mediums – online, hybrid and face-to-face immersive.

“The expansion will extend UWW’s rich, 47-year history of providing non-traditional students with a high-quality experience,” said UMass Amherst Chancellor Kumble Subbaswamy.

“From the notion of a decade ago that MOOCs would replace place-bound colleges, we are beginning to see higher education evolving into different, co-existing modalities of acquiring education, skills, and credentials. As befits our university’s history of invention and innovation, we intend to embrace this upcoming revolution and become leaders.”

The new program will bind together a platform, which will be based on the stage of the academic life of the students and their location and will include undergraduate students on campus, students pursuing undergraduate degrees through distance learning, working professional and retirees.

The courses will be tailored and taught by the UMass faculty, and students will be provided with individual advice and other integrated academic services like other regular students on campus.
