University of California Receives $1M to Help Startups

-

The University of California San Diego has received $1 million in sponsorship funds to help new startup companies in their initial phases of takeoff.

Legler Benbough Foundation and Invention Science Fund have come together to fund the university’s Institute for the Global Entrepreneur (IGE) to speed up the use of technology at the marketplace.

The sponsorship fund will lead to greater mentor access for the faculty and student entrepreneurs and ensure guidance from the science fund industry experts.

“We’re thrilled that the Invention Science Fund and the Legler Benbough Foundation recognize the value that the Institute for the Global Entrepreneur brings to the San Diego entrepreneurial community and to the greater regional tech ecosystem,” Albert P. Pisano, dean of the Jacobs School of Engineering who is already running IGE’s Technology Accelerator program said.

“Our students, faculty and alumni who participate in Institute for the Global Entrepreneur programs go on to launch successful startups. Others bring highly valued entrepreneurial perspectives into a wide range of established technology firms.”

A total of $750,000 was contributed by the Science Fund and $250,000 by the Benbough Foundation for the sponsorship fund.
