University of Kansas Stocks Restrooms With Free Menstrual Products

-

The University of Kansas is starting an initiative to equip 50 restrooms within 21 buildings across its Lawrence campus with free menstrual products.

In collaboration with Rise KU, a student advocacy group, the university’s office of the Vice Provost for Student Affairs on Wednesday announced the launch of Period, a pilot program to be implemented throughout the spring 2019 semester.

Highly trafficked gendered and gender-neutral restrooms across the campus are currently stocked with free menstrual products.

“We know that KU has many students who will benefit from the availability of free menstrual products,” Tammara Durham, vice provost for student affairs said.

“I have deep appreciation for Rise KU co-Directors Nellie Kassebaum and Zoya Khan and for Jenny McKee, program manager for the Health Education Resource Office in Watkins Health Services. They dedicated their energy, talents and time last semester and over winter break to get this program ready and launched before classes begin.”

Funding for the project was provided by the Student Affairs office, and the initial stocking and restocking of products is being done by Facilities Services staff members.
