Purdue University Freezes Tuition for In-State Students

-

Purdue University is freezing its tuition price for incoming in-state students for the eighth consecutive year in a row, the school said in a release.

Last week, the board of trustees approved the tuition and fee schedule for the 2020 and 2021 fiscal years, keeping base undergraduate tuition and fees for Indiana residents on the university’s main campus under $10,000 per year.

All general fees will be held steady except for flight program fees, which will increase by 3 percent in the fiscal year 2020 and 5.6 percent in the fiscal year 2021.

In the fall of 2018, the university saw its largest-ever enrollment of 8,357 students. Total student borrowing has gone down 31 percent since 2012, and the loan default rate for Purdue graduates currently stands at 0.8 percent. The university also received $400 million in donations from alumni, faculty, staff, retirees, students, and corporations in 2018.

However, tuition and fees at Purdue University Northwest and Purdue University Fort Wayne will see an increase of up to 1.65 percent each year of the biennium as recommended by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education. The Fort Wayne college will further increase its tuition charge for international students by $373.50 per semester for undergraduates, and $31.57 per credit hour for graduate students.

The trustees also approved a $2.14 billion operating budget at the West Lafayette campus, a $159.1 million budget at Purdue Northwest and a $155.6 million budget at Purdue Fort Wayne.
