The Rockefeller University on Friday announced various amendments to its storm-related closures policy.
The university has decided to follow the New York City Department of Education’s guidance on weather-related closures following difficulties faced by employees during severe-weather events last year.
Earlier, the university was supposed to remain open on all days except severe weather disturbances.
“In reality, this led to a situation where many employees were forced to take personal time and service levels were unpredictable,” Virginia Huffman, vice president for Human Resources said.
“The university community should bear in mind that significant weather events can impact services even if we remain open. Snowstorms, for example, require us to divert Plant Operations and Custodial resources to cleanup, and as a result, those staff members are not available to carry out their normal duties.”
With the new policy coming to force, the university will close with public schools in case of weather or other emergencies and make announcements via email or post updates on its homepage.
