Augustana University Announces Online Degree in Special Education

-

South Dakota-based Augustana University is partnering with Learners Edge to launch an online Master of Arts degree in Special Education.

On Monday, the university announced it would start offering specialization in K-12 and early childhood areas of special education. The online degree has been aligned with the standards of the Council for Exceptional Children and can be completed within two years.

“We are excited to expand our online graduate offerings to include a Master of Arts in Special Education,” Education Department Chair Laurie Daily said. “Critical shortages in special education have persisted for decades, and we are excited to expand our high-quality offerings to include both K-12 and Early Childhood Special Education.”

The program is also open to South Dakota teachers who are seeking endorsement in one of the two areas of special education.

The university will formally launch the program in February 2019 to the applicants who have received a bachelor’s degree in education and hold a current teaching license. Classes will be completely delivered online to cohorts of 18 students each.
